Roger Penske takes the helm
The 2017 Chevrolet Camaro SS 50th Anniversary Edition will pace the 100th running of the Indy 500 in May. The celebratory muscle car will be piloted by none other than 50-year team owner Roger Penske.
Four special Camaros will be at the race, all wearing a coat of abalone white exterior paint. Graphics on the doors and Indy 500 logos will separate the pace cars from standard 50th Anniversary examples that will go on sale this summer.
“Chevrolet and the Indianapolis 500 have a long, storied history, and it’s an honor to mark the respective milestones of the Indy 500 race and the Camaro simultaneously,” said Mark Reuss, executive vice president of Global Product Development and Global Purchasing and Supply Chain. “It’s also a privilege to have Roger Penske perform the driving duties, as his team has helped Chevrolet earn four consecutive IndyCar manufacturer titles since 2012.”
The 50th Anniversary Editions will all feature nightfall gray metallic paint, specific 20-inch wheels, a unique grille, body-color front splitter, unique black leather and special interior treatments. The package will be offered on 2LT and 2SS trims.
